I see Julio Chinea is back in town, having been suspended and subsequently traded to the Cheetahs. I am puzzled by the fact that a first round pick was traded for his services. He did well here in 2001, and seems to have good stuff, but I am not so sure about trading that pick for a guy you might only have for three weeks.
Am I overrating the value of a first round pick? Is Julio signed for 2003?

Guy,

I don't know if the first round pick is overvalued, but I can tell you that very, very few of the picks in this year's draft stuck with their clubs. We'll be in the middle of the pack in next year's draft, and we do have Julio's option for 2003.

The question became, will we find someone better than Julio in next year's draft? Not likely. So we pulled the trigger, and we're glad to have Julio back.

Chuck

Fair enough, I guess I overestimate the value of that pick.
I saw him pitch quite a bit last year, three of those losses were the direct result of errors. He was one of the first guys off the bench when something went well. The pitching has taken a bad turn this season, one more good pitcher can only help.
Thanks for the reply!
