Subject: See Then That Ye Walk Circumspectly - July 22, 2008

" ... teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom." Psalms 90:12 (KJV)

(definition of) "wisdom" - (Webster's 1828 Dictionary) - The right use or exercise of knowledge; the choice of laudable ends, and of the best means to accomplish them. This is wisdom in act, effect, or practice. If wisdom is to be considered as a faculty of the mind, it is the faculty of discerning or judging what is most just, proper and useful, and if it is to be considered as an acquirement, it is the knowledge and use of what is best, most just, most proper, most conducive to prosperity or happiness. Wisdom in the first sense, or practical wisdom, is nearly synonymous with discretion. It differs somewhat from prudence, in this respect; prudence is the exercise of sound judgment in avoiding evils; wisdom is the exercise of sound judgment either in avoiding evils or attempting good. Prudence then is a species, of which wisdom is the genus.

" ... we spend our years as a tale that is told, - The days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
Psalms 90:9-10 (KJV)

"See then that ye walk circumpsectly, not as fools, but as wise, - Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. - Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is, ..." Ephesians 5: 15-17 (KJV)

"circumspect / circumspection / circumspectly" - (Web 1828)
"Literally, looking on all sides; looking round. Hence, Cautious; prudent; watchful on all sides; examining carefully all the circumstances that may affect a determination, or a measure to be adopted. / Caution; attention to all the facts and circumstances of a case, and to the natural or probable consequences of a measure, with a view to correct course of conduct, or to avoid danger. / Cautiously; with watchfulness every way; with attention to guard against surprise or danger."

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. - But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. - And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:1-3 (KJV)

"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. - The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. - The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. - More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." Psalms 19: 7-10 (KJV)
