The first reading i did on text about grammar was kinda hard for to make out. Reading for the second made me able to see what discourse is.
I agree with the post that Cecília put. Grammar should be taught taking the discourse into consideration but the text shows us some exceptions, as mentioned in the text the use of gerund after prepositions is an example of items that could be analysed sentence-based.
We know how difficult it is to our students to acquire grammar. Teaching it in context may facilitate their learning and make it more relevant to them.
I specially like a phrase on the text that tells that "grammar is a resource for telling a story or creating a text rather then simply existing as a set of abstract sentence-level rules".
When we think this way it doesn´t make sense teaching grammar without contextualizing it and bringing it to the students´personal context.
