Subject: Comments on Vocabulary ppt

In our opinion, the group started really well by posing those two questions: Do we teach vocabulary? How do we do it?
The main role of vocabulary is to convey messages in extended spoken or written texts and our challenge, as teachers, is to bring the discourse dimension into vocabulary teaching.
Because, as Carol has said so well on her comment, a word is not just a word. It comes within a piece of discourse. Therefore, we should teach lexical forms in contextualized, meaningful language in which learners are guided in specific ways, not only to internalize these important building blocks of language, but also to be consciously aware when choosing this or that piece of vocabulary depending on the discourse context.
