Subject: Genre in Listening

Dear mates.
Reading all those suggestion of activities on genre from text 1, I was thinking how important it is to work on a pre-listening activity with the students since it will enable them to have a better performance on their listening tasks.
Bringing this idea to our daily spoken activities even if we aren't sure about what the other interlocutor is about to say we have the context to help us to predict what is going to be said. Sometimes we expect that our students will perform the listening activity with no big problems which is not true. Having a pre-talk on what is going to be listened will help them to understand better the lines (that's genre). On the other hand, if we ask them to turn on the TV and start listening what is being said they will probably have a hard time understanding the spoken text, mainly if it is some news report program.
I think genre can be understood and applied in a wider way and is surely a very helpful tool to help our ESL students to learn a foreing language.
See you all.
