Well, I am not a paint expert. But have consulted many professionals and paint suppliers on the way forward. They all recommended UHP for our ship. Grit-blasting is only recommended for new steel (new build ships) to create grip for the paint. The rusty shine on the steel after UHP blasting is a must for the primer we use. Not sure about the 3 years, as the paint company International gives a 20 year warranty on the primer. The company who is doing the job have many years of experience with ships and bridges and even do a lot of work for British Waterways so one has to assume they know what they are doing! ;-)

The noise is certainly not therapeutic.. but hey, neither is grit blasting. One thing is for sure: UHP gives a LOT less dirt! It's just the old paint and water that comes off, and you don't have to walk around with dust masks all the time. Just ear-plugs! LOL

>So you dident go with us for the blasting then? UHP is
>definitely NOT the way to go here, i think you may
>well need some therapies of your own in two to three
>years time when all that nice silver primer starts to
>part company with that rusted steel base, good look
>though, you ARE going to need it!!! LOL.
