Miss Napa County and Outstanding Teen 2009 Scholarship Program
Fourteen Semi-Finalists Vie For Two Titles

NAPA COUNTY, CA --- Fourteen semi-finalists will compete in the 2009 Miss Napa County and Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program Saturday at 7 p.m. at Justin-Siena High School. The program is a preliminary to the Miss California and Miss America competitions.

Miss Napa County 2008 Sarah Rutan is a senior at San Jose State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations this May. She has made over 50 appearances this year and is looking forward to passing on her crown.

“This is a talented group of young ladies and any one of them would make a wonderful representative,” Rutan stated.

Napa County’s Outstanding Teen 2008 Cindy Huynh is a senior at Napa High School graduating in June and will be attending a four-year university in the fall. She made over 20 appearances as a titleholder.

The semi-finalists for the title of Miss Napa County 2009 include:

Ariel Andrews, 18, senior at Calistoga High School performing a monologue from “Stardust.” Her platform is, “Something Fishy: Raising Awareness on Eating Disorders.”

Nori Anchondo, 18, senior at Calistoga School performing a clarinet piece titled "Menuet from K.334" by Mozart. Her platform is "Working for Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality".

Kathleen Cantu, 17, senior at New Technology High School performing a monologue from the Disney movie Tarzan. Her platform is, “Preserving the Arts.”

Noeli Cardenas, 18, senior at Vintage High School performing a vocal entitled, “For You I Will.” Her platform is, “Reclaiming Our Children: Early Intervention in Troubled Teens.”

Jade Corpus, 19, sophomore at UC Davis performing a martial arts routine to the song, “Bring Me to Life.” Her platform is, “Raising the Bar in Higher Education.”

Tiffany Flossman, 19, sophomore at UC Davis performing a vocal entitled, “Big Spender” from Sweet Charity. Her platform is, “Cancer Prevention Through Early Education.”

Mindi Long, 21, student at the Napa Valley College performing a contemporary dance to the song, “Shattered.” Her platform is, “Best Buddies.”

Shelby Holliday, 18, senior at Vintage High School performing a cheerleading/gymnastics routine to the song, “Pump It.” Her platform is, “Autism Awareness: Completing the Puzzle.”

Ashley Mendez, 21, student at Napa Valley performing a musical skit entitled, “Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend.” Her platform is, “Fight Against Lung Cancer: Awareness and Prevention.”

Lisa Moore, 18, a senior at Vintage High School performing a lyrical dance to the song, “To Where You Are.” Her platform is, “Prevention of Skin Cancer.”

Clarissa Palomera, 17, a senior at Napa High School performing a hip-hop dance to the song, “Boom.” Her platform is, “A Shoulder to Lean On: Supporting Teenage Mothers.”

The semi-finalists for the title of Napa County’s Outstanding Teen 2009 include:

Gracie Damran, 16, a junior at New Technology High School performing cup stacking in her own style. Her platform is, “Awareness of Darfur.”

Yvette Hernandez, 15, a sophomore at Vintage High School performing a song that she wrote entitled, “Ride With Me.” Her platform is, “Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover: An Anti-Bullying Campaign.”

Katherine MacMahon, 16, student at the Insight Schools of California North Bay and past Justin-Siena High School student is performing a vocal jazz titled, "My One and Only Love". Her platform is "One Raindrop Raises the Sea: Supporting Cultural Diversity and Inclusiveness."

The phases of competition include a private interview before a panel of judges, on-stage judging in talent, presence and poise in evening wear, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit for the miss and sportswear for the teens and on-stage question.

“These girls have worked very hard these past few months, “ Rutan continued. “It is going to be a great show.”

Special guest, Miss California’s Outstanding Teen 2008 Crystal Lee will also be present and will perform ballet en pointe.

Tickets are $18.00 and can be purchased at the door.

The Miss Napa County Scholarship Organization began in 1961 and is a part of the Miss California/Miss America System. The Miss America Organization is the largest provider of scholarships for young women in the world. For more information, please visit www.missnapacounty.org.
