Born in London, England, he was a noted classical violinist and orchestra leader.

He started his career at age 13 playing in the pit of a silent cinema orchestra, furnishing background atmosphere for silent films. By age 17, he was performing at the biggest hotels in London and was offered the position of orchestra leader of the Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

After serving in World War II as a bomber pilot in the Royal Air Force, he became the leader of the Palm Court Orchestra which aired on the long-running British Broadcasting Corp. radio program, "Grand Hotel" until the 1960s.

He also appeared in the short film "Music with Max Jaffa" (1959) and had his own TV series "Max".

He died at the age of 79 in London, England.
