Freedom in Brazil is so important as it is in America. We can notice that if we pay atention how free we are to choose what religion we have. That is so common here to see people going to a Catholic church and going to a "centro espirita". For me it can happen just because we feel free to make this kind of choice.
On the other hand, equality is not the same, Americans usually say " Who do you think you are?" instead of this Brazilians say " Who do you think you are talking to?". For those sentences, we can perceive that if someone is on a higher position, he or she thinks to be better than the others,
