Tonight I have been reminded once again why I love Miss USA so much and despise the Miss America pageant. I love the fact that social and charity work are taken in to account but the judging is HORRIBLE. A weak year with a weak top 15 and an even weaker winner. TLC should not waste their time and money. What a joke.

I don't know how true it is but word on the street in Nassau has it that Anastagia Pierre (Miss Florida USA 2009) is entering the Miss Bahamas Pageant slated for April 25th. If she is entering, she is a sure pick to win the crown and represent The Bahamas at the 2010 Miss Universe and Miss World Pageants. I sure hope it is true!

It is my understanding that Anastagia's mother is a Bahamian which automatically by Bahamian law makes a child (regardless of where they are born) a Bahamian citizen!

I'm watching the opening of the Miss America pageant, and I think I'm gonna turn it off. It's a Miss USA opening number, and making the women introduce themselves with some of the most ridiculous and embarrassing statements is the most horrible mistake. It's a scholarship pageant and they made them all look like dumb blonde, cheerleader, weather girl, all the cliches of the unintelligent woman you could think of. Whose idea was that?!?!?!?! It was a bad bad bad decision. Can't believe all those women felt articulate and intelligent saying those things...from the governator comment...to celebrity fawning...to making some Illi"noise" for Illinois....to not seeing Tiger Woods...I was embarrassed for almost all of them. Thank god some of the states were eventless states...

I don't think I'll make it to the end of the show....

I am so happy that cable network The Learning Channel (TLC) aired the Miss America pageant telecast twice last night, and again for a third time today, Sunday at 1 pm Eastern time/noon Central time on TLC.

Anyone know if a Miss Congeniality was awarded this year (who won it?) and was it by vote of the 53 contestants or some public vote? And who were the Non-Finalist Talent winners this year?

I was actually starting to get on the Miss America band wagon. This year was a total disaster! Why were we voting for these random girls?

OPENING NUMBER:

This was really awkward. The girls were not in sync at all! The song was good, but they never got to the good part to get the crowd involved. The introductions were okay but only Minnesota and New Jersey stuck out for me.

TOP FIFTEEN:

As each girl was called.......I thought huh? I was literally trying to pick a favorite of the bunch. So many beauties left standing.

SWIMSUIT:

Can we have a chance to look at the girls? It went so fast, it was like they were rushing! Plus, there was never a shot of their face.

EVENING GOWN:

A bunch of bad prom gowns! I cannot believe these girls picked the gowns they did to walk on the Miss America stage. And lets not forget that they were the top 12!

TALENT:

With this round Virginia and Nebraska finally made me have a choice. They clearly stuck out.

INTERVIEW:

Kentucky did horrible here. She must have had high scores before. Virginia again had the best answer. It was nonrehearsed and authenitic.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER:

I'm glad Virginia won, but why bring it down to the winner and two nonfinalists? That is so anticlimatic. It should come down to the top two at the end of the night. Although, I'm clueless how California was first runner up.

Hate to see Katie Stam go. She was the first Miss America in a long time to really catch our eye. She has big things in her future.

Miss Universe 1988
Porntip Nakhirunkanok

At age of 15, Nakhirunkanok attempted to win the Miss California Teen USA pageant where she placed as first runner-up. The pageant was won by Shawn Gardner who was a semi-finalist at the 1983 Miss Teen USA pageant.

In 1984, she joined the first Thai beauty pageant called "Tida Dome" held by the alumni of Thammasat University (Thailand). At that pageant she placed as third runner-up. She tried to compete again in the following year and placed as first runner-up.

She participated in the 1988 Miss Thailand pageant held in Bangkok where she won and had the right to represent Thailand at the Miss Universe pageant.

At age of 20, Porntip Nakhirunkanok was crowned as the Miss Universe 1988 by outgoing titleholder Cecilia Bolocco on May 24, 1988 in Taipei, Taiwan. She entered the semi-finals in fourth place, right behind USA, Dominican Republic, and Korea. She impressed the judges so much during the interview portion that she swept the competition, becoming the clear winner for the evening. She received the interview score of 9.730, swimsuit score of 9.684 and 9.752 for evening gown respectively.

The 1988 pageant is notable for the fact that four of the top 5 finalists all hailed from the Far East, with Porntip as the winner, Korea (Yunchung Chong) in second, Mexico (Amanda Olivares) in third, Japan (Mizuho Sakaguchi) in fourth, and Hong Kong (Pauline Yeung Bo Ling) in fifth. The rest of the top 10 were Patricia Jimenez from the Dominican Republic, Yajaira Vera-Roldán of Venezuela, Courtney Gibbs of USA, Diana Patricia Arévalo of Colombia, and Bente Brunland of Norway.

Gretchen Polhemus

Miss USA 1989, the 38th Miss USA pageant, was televised live from the Mobile Civic Center Theatre in Mobile, Alabama on February 28, 1989. At the conclusion of the final competition, Gretchen Polhemus of Texas was crowned by outgoing titleholder Courtney Gibbs. She was the fifth consecutive Miss Texas USA to win the pageant.

The pageant was hosted by Dick Clark, with color commentary by Angie Dickinson. This pageant was held in Alabama for the only time.

After winning the title Miss Texas USA, Gretchen Polhemus (born May 12, 1965) was crowned the 38th Miss USA in 1989.

She was the 5th and last out of five consecutive Texas representatives to win the title (1985-1989).

She was later the 2nd runner-up at the Miss Universe 1989 pageant.

Since then, Polhemus has worked as a professional model, a sports correspondent for ESPN and most recently she has worked for a CBS affiliate as a news correspondent.

Judi Anderson (born 1958) is a beauty pageant titleholder from Hawaii who won Miss USA 1978.

Anderson first won the Miss Hawaii USA title in 1977, then represented her state at the Miss USA pageant televised live from Charleston, South Carolina in May 1978. Anderson won the coveted Miss USA crown, the third woman from Hawaii to do so.

Anderson later represented the United States in the Miss Universe pageant held in Acapulco, Mexico in July that year. Despite receiving the highest score from the judges during the competition, she finished first runner-up to Margaret Gardiner of South Africa, and was the highest placing delegate from the USA from the previous five years.

Later in her career, Anderson owned and operated a chiropractic clinic
