Subject: Actress Marcia Rodd 1940-2025 Author: jlp [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 01/10/26 6:37:29am R.I.P Marcia Rodd on December 27, 2025, aged 87 (pictured right here with co-star Eileen Brennan in the 1979 sitcom "13 Queens Boulevard”). The Tony-nominated actress was best known for her role as Patsy Newquist, the quirky interior designer opposite Elliott Gould in Jules Feiffer’s black comedy “Little Murders”, directed by Alan Arkin. Others will remember her best for originating the role of Bea Arthur’s daughter in the pilot for “Maude”, in 1972, though she declined to join the series full-time. • Born in Lyons, Kansas, in 1938 and raised in Tulsa and Wichita, Marcia discovered her passion for theatre at age nine after seeing the musical “Carousel”. Determined to pursue acting, she studied drama at Northwestern University under Alvina Krause before joining the Yale Repertory Theatre and later moving to New York. • Marcia’s first love was the stage. She made her Broadway debut in “Oh, What a Lovely War” and earned acclaim in Neil Simon’s hit comedy “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” (1969–71), where critic Clive Barnes praised her “naive, little-girl charm.” In 1973, she received a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for “Shelter”, directed by Austin Pendleton. • On screen, she appeared in “T.R. Baskin” (1971); Jonathan Demme’s “Citizens Band” (1977); and “Last Embrace” (1979). • After her work on “Maude”, she featured in Norman Lear comedies such as “The Dumplings” and had recurring role on “Trapper John, M.D.” from 1982–86. Guest roles spanned “M*A*S*H”, “Lou Grant”, “Murder, She Wrote,” “ER”, and as Myrna Bloodworth on “The Young and the Restless” in 2017. • In her later years, she returned to the stage in Herb Gardner’s “I’m Not Rappaport” and toured nationally in “Fiddler on the Roof”. She also starred as Mary McCarthy in “Hellman vs. McCarthy” at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills in 2015.
