Happy New Year to all. After a blackout a few weeks ago, we seem to be back up and running.
As we begin a new year, we've decided to institute a few new 'rules' that we believe will improve the board and lead to a better experience for all who visit and contribute.
1. While we appreciate all who post here, it does get tiring seeing the same person or persons posting every day, and in most instances, several times a day. This forum does not belong to just one person. We want to maintain our forum password to prevent automatic bot posts, but we've decided to post the forum password each day. This will (hopefully) drastically increase the number of people who post here. At the same time, the quality of posts should improve, too.
2. A death notice must be simply that - an announcement of a death. There have been instances lately when death announcements have not been clear; the decedent's 'claim to fame' is not clear, their age at death is not clear, and ledes have been buried. So, moving forward, simply copying and pasting the linked article's headline will provide all relevant information. For example, "Bob Weir, Grateful Dead Co-Founder and Guitarist, Dead at 78" provides the decedent's name, claim to fame, and age at death. If the linked article does not provide the required information, please create your own headline using the format provided above.
3. Despite the objections of some here, certain publications are, indeed, more reliable than others. In addition, the tactics used by some news organizations to solicit information is problematic. So, when a death announcement needs to be verified by a more reliable source it will be done. Debate as to whether this is necessary or to the reliability of the verified source will not be tolerated.
We realize that some here will not like these new 'rules' but they're being instituted to improve access to, and the quality of, this forum. Please be a team player.
