R.I.P to the sexy and exotic Mara Corday, who got pulses racing as soon as she arrived on the scene during the 1950s, in a spate of westerns, including “Drums Across the River”, opposite Audie Murphy, as well as the B-movie Sci-Fi classics "Tarantula" (1955), "Black Scorpions" and "Giant Claws" (both 1957), opposite Jeff Morrow. Her death on February 9, 2025, in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California, has just come to light. She was 95 and had been in failing health for some time.

Mara was contracted by Universal-International in the early ‘50s. “Mamie Van Doren and I received the most fan mail at the time. It was because of our frequent pin-up sessions, I’m sure”, she remembered some time ago.

Born Marilyn Watts in Santa Monica, California, she started out in the back row of the chorus in "Earl Carroll’s Revue" on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.

She was quick to draw attention to a bevy of famous photographers, which in turn led her to land her first film role in “Two Tickets to Broadway” (1951), for RKO.

Other bits followed, including “Son of Ali Baba” (1952), “The Lady Wants Mink” and “Tarzan and the She-Devil” (both 1953), with Lex Barker.

In 1954, she was signed to Universal-International Pictures as a contract player. It was there while on the set of “Playgirl”, she met actor and future husband Richard Long. They married in 1957.

Her other film credits include “Francis Joins the WACS” (1954), “So This is Paris” (1955), “Naked Gun” (1956), “Undersea Girl” (1957), and as Vera Parkinson in the Film-Noir “Girls on the Loose” (1958), directed by Paul Henreid, with Lita Milan, and Barbara Bostock. She was also kept busy on television too.

Her marriage to Richard Long was a stormy one. Despite his own success, he resented her career, so she took a back seat during the 1960s to raise their family. Only after his death in 1974, did she make a comeback, thanks to her friend Clint Eastwood, who cast her in “The Gauntlet” (1977), “Sudden Impact” (1983), “Pink Cadillac” (1989), and “The Rookie” (1990), with Charlie Sheen. Mara Corday is survived by three of her four children. One son predeceased her.
