Subject: Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest Retreat

Every time I read anything about Jefferson and his accomplishments and living so close to his beloved summer home, it just sends chills down me to think that he was so near here. Actually, he probably even owned the area where I live at one time, since the original Poplar Forest estate was over 4,000 acres. I love what T.J. says of Poplar Forest, "It is the most valuable of my possessions."

It truly is a treasure and I am lucky enough to go by it everyday.

Bedford County, Virginia has a great website - Well, of course, Virginia is full of history - no matter where you go, you can find something. But nothing is more beautiful than around Bedford County. I thought I would share the website with you and anyone who is interested in early American history.

If you go to:

http://www.co.bedford.va.us/

Then go to "Tourism" - then to Enter Here, then click on Bedford County on the left side of the screen, this will take you to a page that is marked "Points of Interest" - go down to #7 which is Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest.

After that just have fun looking at everything. There is a connection also to Monticello - some interesting new things happening there.

I love the history here and I love living in Virginia - so I just wanted to share my interests with you.

Nancy ;)
