Comrades in arm, my name is Sgt Richard A. Jackson, I represent Wisconsin SCOTTISH Inc.

Wisconsin SCOTTISH Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt Wisconsin corporation, chartered to preserve the traditional arts and crafts, culture, heritage and traditions of the British Isles through educational activities. This goal will be met through the production of an annual Wisconsin Highland Games, The Wisconsin Scottish Arts Institute, Highland Games Seminar and Tattoo(s)/Concert(s).

We will be hosting the World Single Stick Championships™ at the Wisconsin Highland Games in the summer of 2002 at St. Johns Northwestern Militarily Academy, Delafield WI.

“Singlestick”. Singlestick is to Scotch broadsword what the foil is to the rapier, Used as a training weapon for the basket hilt broad sword in the 17th through 19th century. Made from a 36in to 41inch long, 3/4th to 7/8th inch thick, ash stick with a woven basket or saddle leather cup as a hilt to protect the hands. Two fencers, face each other in a 14-foot circle, put on their masks, cross sticks, “engage” and cut, slash, thrust and parry until one is struck and a point is scored. The first competitor to score 5 hits wins the match.

This is how the Single stick competition is set up at this time It seems to be the only Single/long stick competition a round. It has quickly became the World Single Stick Championships™. We will send an invitation to all of the Member Organizations of the International Marshal Arts Hall Of Fame and the European Marshal Arts Association.

“Farmer's Walk”. In the farmer's walk, the athlete picks up two weights, each weighing up to 150 pounds, and walks around series of pylons or moves along a given distance. The winner is the athlete who walks the farthest or completes the course in the fastest time.

We will be hosting a living history site at the games. Ken Pfrenger has offered to put on an 18th / 19th century marshal arts seminar for all to attend. See his site at http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/pak9/america.html

We hope you will attend.
