What are your sources? I know that the feudal system was introduced into Scotland in the 12th century when Normans were granted lands and titles there (i.e. William du Brus, ancestor of Robert the Bruce). I read something recently (but can't recall where, darned half-zheimers) detailing the ranks of nobility, responsibilities, and forms of address. I do agree that lands are only held (with military responsibility) by the nobles. All lands are owned by the king.
