Subject: Joel & Luke Recovering From Flu

Hey Big Brothers,
Wanted to let you know what has been happening since Monday, since Joel left you a message that he was trying to get over the flu over the weekend, wasn't getting any better and was going to the doctor and mostly would be missing school, practice and because if you don't attend practice you can't play in Tuesday basketball game.

Joel got a big SHOCK at the doctor office when they checked him over. He was running a really, really high temperature and asked what his mom & dad tried over the weekend to try rid him of the flu wasn't working so it was decided to throw his little ass into the hospital to help him recover.
Joel has never been a patient in a hospital during his life, except when he was born, so you can imagine the fuss and protest little brother put up to not be admitted.
He was reminded to think of the basketball team, to get well so he could play again, and he was reminded he had an off game last Friday which isn't known if it was because he was getting the flu or what and where he got it.
Joel was wonder if he might have gotten it at McDonald in the Playland where Luke and some of the guys ate in because there was not alot of extra room in the dining room, could some kid(s) had the flubug and Joel picked it up?
Joel's dad finally put his footdown and forced Joel to be admitted. Joel agreed IF he didn't have to wear one of those crazy hospital gowns and the doctors said they would get him some PJ's to wear. And they told Joel they didn't to get his tempature back down. Joel said okay, he could miss playing basketball on Tuesday. The doctor looked at Joel's tempature and other vital signs and said he could forget about basketball this week, to get him back to normal was not gurantee he'e be back to normal by Friday, and they talked with Joel's Coach and staff and he agreed Joel need to rest, recover and get himself back to normal so they RED FLAGED him.
That hurt our little brother for sure, and he knew then he would not be a happy camper in the hospital. Joel was reminded to be a "happy camper" to get well or he might not be ready to play next week, healthwise, etc. and his dad reminded Joel what good is he to the team to not be well. So Joel finally gave in and has been in the hospital since Monday.
He's had IVs and has had shots in his ass, which nobody would care to have done to them, but it had to be done to help get his temperature down and body rested up.
When I found out our little brother was in the hospital, don't think I didn't get scared. Joel's never been in a hospital in his life, and with a lousy flu/health condition he was in and high tempertaure made me wonder how bad off Joel was and was his parents or mine were trying to spare me from something for a worse health condition then what he was in, etc.
I wanted to go to the hospital, BUT no team mates or school friends would be allowed in the hospital to visit him for fear we'd get the flu to, so I've been calling Joel on the phone and he has me since he went in.

It's lonely feeling having a little brother in the hospital who hardly gets sick and NEVER been in a hospital as a patient!

He's alittle bit better as a "happy camper" and getting well, and if all goes right should be home by the weekend.
He's got one thing going for him to keep his spirits up, he's met a teen candy striper he's made friends with, he's talked her into sneaking him snacks and things and they talk. Joel says he might even ask her to give him a sponge bath. I told Joel that candy stripers don't give patients sponge baths. Joel told me then he's going to be the first! I don't think so, little brother, but dream if you want to.
Does this wound like out little brother is getting well?
I missed not seeing Joel so much, even though we've phoned each other on the phone, I stood out in the parking lot of the hospital to wave to Joel looking out his room window yesterday.
Now about Luke, our other patient...
Joel didn't know it, but Luke got the flu Sunday night and would be missing school on Monday to, going to the doctor, etc. Luke didn't have a really high, threaten temperature like Joel, but felt lousy of course and was ordered by doctor to stay home. Of course, Luke put up a fuss worrying about missing playing Tuesday basketball game, but his dad "talked" him into staying home from school and get his little ass well for the team.
It was later in the day Monday that Luke found out that Joel was put into the hospital, after I found out and rest of the team told, and then I broke the news to Luke.
Luke has been on the phone off and on to Joel. Joel told me that Luke wished he was worse off and could be in the hospital with Joel.
Get this, Joel came up with a crazy idea and told Luke that when he was getting his temperature taken that Luke could heat the end of the thermometer up and it would raise his temperature up and that would cause him to have to be admitted to the hospital and they could become "roomies" together.
Luke said he tried that one time when he was a little kid, hoping to stay home from school more, got caught doing it, and when he was well he got his little ass spanked for doing it, so he never tried doing it again.

When it was learned that Luke had the flu and would be out, he to was ordered not visitors from the team or class mates, so he's been receiving phone calls from the team and I stood outside his house window to wave at him for support to get well.
Both Luke and Joel wanted to do if our team won the Tuesday night basketball game without them. I couldn't lie, and had to tell them that without them playing our team struggled and lost 59-34. Don't think that didn't make Joel not go ballistic, and scream the game was lost because he and Luke wasn't playing in it.
When our "hospital patient" gets his ass well and out of the hospital I'll have him post Tuesdays's game results and Fridays after we play it.
Hope Luke has gotten his little ass back to normal, gotten rid of the flu, and plays in Fridays game.
I hope we can win the game or you know who will go ballistic again in the hospital, and he better be getting his little ass well and home by weekend to be ready to practice and play next Tuesdays game, which is a league game away, and starts the second round of league play again.
Right now we have a league record of l-5 and overall 4-7. which is not impressive at all.
We plan to dedicate Friday's game to Joel. Would have dedicated last Tuesday's game to both Joel and Luke, but with everyone upset about Luke and Joel not being there stupidly forgot.
Even though I talked with Joel last night on the phone, I stopped by Joel's house to talk with his mom and dad to ask really how Joel is really doing to ease my mind. They say if Joel keeps doing what he's suppose to be doing and be a "happy camper" he should be home this weekend.
So big brothers, keep your fingers crossed and say an extra prayer for both out little brothers to get their asses well and back to playing basketball! The team needs them.
Even if Joel has made friends with a candy striper and living it up at the hospital "resting" or like he likes to put it, "on vacation!"
Little Brother, Joel, your vacation needs to end! And so does yours Luke!
It would be nice to know where Joel and Luke picked up the flu and why nobody else on the team got the flu.
If something changes, I'll let you guys know.

-Kyle
