I got an e-mail from Micki today, and wanted to pass along the information. From what she said, y’all know about her accident, but she hasn’t been forthcoming with many details, and she wanted me to share with you all.

First, she says thank you for all the prayers and good vibes, and she’ll take as many as we all want to send her way. Now, on to the details, and once again, these are Micki- sanctioned :-) Actually, here are her exact words, taken from the e-mail: “You can post this to the boards if you like--I know there a lot of people wondering exactly what happened and I've only given sketchy details. I'll take all the prayers and good vibes people want to send my way.”

She was on her way to work Friday, May 14, when she came up on a disabled car in the road. He had no flashers, cones, no indication he was stationary, until she hit him. Her car was demolished, her right hip shattered immediately. Both air bags went off, the car filled with smoke, and all Micki could think was that she was going to burn to death. She managed to get her seatbelt off, her driver door open, and rolled into the road. There was a guy standing there, asking if he could do anything. She told him to wave traffic around her, so she wouldn’t get run over, pulled out her cellphone, and called 911. She heard a familiar voice, looked up, and a former supervisor was there, asking if she was okay. He’d seen her after the accident and turned around to come back and help.

When emergency crews arrived, they took her to the hospital, x-rayed her leg, and were talking about airlifting her to the University of Michigan. They sedated her, and when she woke up, she was in a hospital room, her right knee in traction, and no pain. She was told her hip and pelvis were shattered, and they were keeping her pain managed until the surgeon could get to her the next week. That was done on Tuesday, May 18th. It took 4½ hours, a metal plate, and 18 screws, but they got her put back together. Micki said she is thankful to have the Lord at her side, and grateful that he’s spared her life.

May 21, she was transferred to a rehab facility to start working on regaining her strength. She went to the doctor this past Thursday and had 80 staples removed, and that’s when they gave her the bad news – she can’t put ANY weight on her right leg for 3 months from the date of surgery (which will be Aug. 14, she said), because the bones and screws have to fuse. She’ll be in rehab for at least another month. Being the strong-willed Micki that she is, she expected to be on her feet and home by June 4 lol She said she still has flowers at home that need plantin’! By this past Friday, she’d accepted that she’s there for now, and is determined to work hard on her recovery, so that by the time her foot hits the floor, she can walk out the door.

She said she knows that she hasn’t been on the boards much before the accident, between her beloved grandson and work, but she misses everybody, and wants you all to know how much she appreciates the prayers and caring. I’ll let y’all know when I hear more from her.
