If he is still active on a list he can still be delisted by the coach and a normal pick in pre-season draft taken but then he becomes a Free-agent if someone wants to take a punt on him

Rules:
2.9 Any player who retires or is no longer part of an AFL list (Excluding speculative picks who were not listed) before the Pre-Season draft, are able to be replaced before the PSD or with the first pick/s of the PSD. Speculative players who are not picked up before Pre-season draft will be treated as a normal draft pick (based on ladder order)
