Subject: Jaf, Day 2 in the USA

Guess who! Here are a few photos from Jaf's second day in the US. Can you see he gained weight? LOL. Based on some photos I saw before Jaf left for the US, I think he lost some weight on his flight. Trust me, he gained it back! This boy is one serious chow hound. I will have to be careful with him.

I was training the two of them to sit still and not snatch food out of my hands. Azaan already knows this, but I had to include her for obvious reasons. They get their normal meals fed separately in separate rooms, but I also want Jaf to learn how not to snatch fingers while taking a treat. Besides saving fingers, it is an exercise that helps a puppy learn pack leadership skills, making eye with me, and how to wait patiently for their turn. I train using marker training with food rewards, so taking food out of my hand will be something that we use in the future as we train.

Azaan and Jaf were sitting very politely waiting for the treat, and focused on me. This is good! Jaf already knows he must wait patiently for food and take it nicely. I had some cut-up raw beef in my bag. I handed Azaan her piece out of my hand, and then I was going to give Jaf his piece. Azaan spit hers out -- go figure. Jaf jumped like a bullet and snatched that piece of beef up so fast off the floor Azaan didn't even know what happened. She didn't care either. I don't think I ever saw a 9-week old puppy move so fast. He sure has sharp reflexes! LOL.

Today is the second day that Jaf had an opportunity to go out on a leash. We drove to the Healthy Pet Products store which sells upscale dog stuff and raw meat. This way he could learn what walking on a leash is all about, along with a little bit of socialization. Jaf and Azaan walked very politely together, and Jaf didn't pee on the store floor! The owner of the store saw Jaf and exclaimed, "What a bod!". Jaf has now been with me for 40 hours with no potty accidents.

Here are some pictures from today:

Where is Jaf?

Found him!

What a bod!
