When we dream we imaging things and happenings. Sometimes we ourselves take part in the happenings. Other times we just are watching these.
In our dreams we take elements from our memory about things we have seen and experienced ourself sometimes. We blend and reshape these elements and put them together to a story. The story may follow a normal logic, but often parts of the story does not adhere to common logic or follow normal physical laws. Often a part of the dreamed story glides smoothly, but still rapidly into another part with completely different content or something new introduces itself into the story and blend with content of previous parts.
In a dream one often will make decisions or use paths to get to a goal contrary to what one would do in real life.
Often dreams contain elements we wish or elements we fear. But by the end of the dream these elements show not to be so attractive or so dangerous for oneself as person as feared. If the content of the dream gets too frightening, one tends to wake up rapidly in a disturbed state.
Sometimes people suggest that dreams originate from experiences in prallel universes or one is looking into such universes during dreams.
Sometimes the elements you experience in dreams are so different from what you normally experience, but yet behaving logically and coherently. Therefore one must ask if you somehow also can look into parallel universes during dreams.
Being the fact that the possibility of such univeres that evan can be very near along a forth dimmension are taken seriously by physicists, the suggestion cannot just be dismissed at hand.
But I do not think that there has been done enough research to answar it for sure. But people mey have personal answars based on own experiences.
One are not quite sure about the purpose of dreams. Possibly the mind makes order in memories of things experienced the last day and recently, and relate the material to material already stored, and the dreams are the coscious experience or this process. Possibly the mind also is testing varients of new experiences and how to rect at these, without having to test them in the real physical life. If near prallel universes eally exist, and have animpact upon the lives of humans, the purpose can also be to get information about these universes that can be useful in the daily life on Earth.

Biography of Knut Holt, Business Consultant and Internet Based Marketer
I am Scandinavian, but currently I live in the Caribian area. I have a mixed university education with most chemistry, rather much physics and some biology and informatics, and of cource the mathematics needed for use in these subjects.
I have worked in the electricity supply industry and in the computer softwear industry, mostly as a project leader.
I am interested in all kind of science, also health and fitness science. I have an hobby of investigating strange fenomenons that happen on Earth and with people, especially things happening behind closed doors.
I also have languages as a hobby. I am especially interested in the science of grammar. The languages I know best in addition to Scandinavian and English are Spanish, Italian and French.
With so many interests, I cannot be a real expert in all of the subjects. But I still try to understand well the basic foundations of the subjects, and some areas of the subjects that I find especially interesting.
Currently I work as an independent business consultant, market analysist, and internet marketer within the fields I know something about, and I also take translation tasks within English, Scandinavian (especially Norwegian), Spanish and Italian.
I have written several articles about health, fitness, sexuality and science. Many of them are to be found here:
A stretch mark is an acquired stripe in the skin, narrow or broad, and sometimes branched. It is usually reddish at first but will eventually get pale, and it is less elastic and looser than normal skin. The skin in the stripe can be sunken or elevated, but in an irregular fashion. Several stretch marks tend to appear parallel.
They can develop any place in the body, but most often at places that have a thick fat layer. Typical places are the lower belly, the hips and the thighs. Stretch marks are structural defects in the dermis, the mid layer of the skin between the outer epidermis and the inner fat-rich layer, subdermis. Affected areas have less fibers made of the proteins collagen and elastin to keep the skin taut and elastic. Stretch marks can form at any age in both men and women, but highest risk occur during puberty and in pregnant women.
One factor causing stretch marks is a reduced production of protein fibers in the skin so that it gets weaker. This is often due to influence of an increased level of glucocorticoid hormones which typically occur during puberty and pregnancy. Genetic inheritance or a bad diet can also cause weaker skin. For the damage to occur the skin must then be stretched during some time, either constantly or repeatedly, due to weight gain, sport activities, pregnancy or external impacts.
Keeping a normal weight will help to prevent stretch marks, since a thick layer of fat tissue seems to promote them. According to research a good preventive measure is massage of exposed body areas with an oily cream that also gives moisture to the skin. Some of the ingredients used in these preventive products are wheat germ oil, other botanical oils, egg oil, panthenol, menthol, gotu kola extract and vitamin E. Taking some caution how body areas are stretched during sport and work might help. The mentioned preventive measures can also help to take away the damage at an early stage.
Stretch marks tend to normalize by time, but seldom go completely away. Laser treatment have shown to be effective to make stretch marks less visible, especially the fresh ones. By one type of laser treatment one uses light with the wavelength 585 nm at the whole affected area to stimulate healing activities. Treatment with radio waves may also be effective, especially when combined with laser treatment.
By another method one performs a series of treatments where different spots in the stretch marks are subjected to the laser rays each time, and one uses so strong light that small wounds are caused in those spots, fractional laser treatment. The subsequent regrowth activities will strengthen the structure also around the wounds so that the skin in the marks normalize. This treatment is reported to be good for older stretch marks.
Sometimes one performs surgical abrasion of the outer part of the skin to take away stretch marks, called dermabaration. Microdermabration, where not much more than the outer layer of horn stuff, keratin, is ground away, may also be an option. These procedures smoothen the surface of the skin, and the regrowth activities will spread to deeper parts of the skin and make it tighter. When there is an excess of skin at an area, the excessive skin together with stretch marks can be removed surgically, and the skin sewn together will also be tauter. This procedure is most often done at the lower abdomen, which is then called tummy tuck surgery.
Creams with retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A may help, especially retinoic acid. These substances may work by stimulating a new structural development within the dermis and epidermis. In many places these drugs are prescription bound.
Products with glycolic acid in a low concentration is also an option for treatment of stretch marks. Glycolic acid dissolves irregular structures, especially in the outer skin layer and takes away miscoloration. The regrowth activities may then establish a smoother and firmer structure. These products, formulated as cleansers, scrubs or lotions shall usually stay on the skin a short time before being washed away. Some people report good results by using a retinoid cream and glycolic acid between each dose of the cream.
Several manufacturers make creams, lotions or ointments to cure stretch marks that can be purchased without prescription. These will typically contain botanic oils of various kind to make the skin smooth, to act as a carrier of other working ingredients and to give the cream the right consistency. Some of these oils are also assumed to stimulate skin repair.
Most of them also contain vitamins, like vitamin A, vitamin E and Vitamin B3 (Niacin). They typically also contain different types of peptides, substances whose molecules are combinations of two or a few amino acids. The aim of these substances is to stimulate the fibroblasts to make more fibers which then is used to build up a firmer skin structure.

Substances to reduce appetite have been used since the First World War. Soldiers used the stimulating substance amphetamine both to stimulate their fighting capacity and to reduce hunger. The same was done in the Second World War. After the last war, the civil market began to use amphetamine and related substances to help reduce the intake of food during weight loss efforts.
A. APPETITE SUPPRESSORS OF THE AMPHETAMINE GROUP
Amphetamine and related substances stimulate the alertness of the central nervous system and the impulse to external action. When zones of the brain dealing with external action are in high activity, signals are sent to zones controlling appetite, digestion and connected functions to reduce their activity. Thus central stimulating substances also reduce appetite. Since these drugs increase the bodily activity, they also help to reduce weight by inducing a higher rate of fat burning.
Some drugs of this group are also used as antidepressant, for example fluoxetine hudrochloride (Prozac).
Being central stimulants all these appetite suppressors also bear a certain risk of developing addiction, and of side effects like insomnia, agitation, manic reactions, hypertension, stroke, heart valve damage and heart rhythm disturbances.
Because of such dangerous effects, many of these substances have been banned from most markets as appetite suppressants, for example amphetamine itself, aminorex, fenfluramine, phenylpropanolamine and ephedrine. However, many of these substances are still used for other purposes, for example to stimulate heart activity and to regulate up a too low blood pressure.
Substances of this group available on the market today as appetite suppresants are: Phentermine, diethylpropion, phenidmetrazine, benzphetamine, sibutramine, rimonabant, oxyntomodulin and fluoxetine hydrochloride (Prozac).
Phentermine is perhaps the most widely used appetite suppressant drug today. It works by increasing the release of the hormones / neurotransmitters norepinephrine, serotonine and dopamine, The signals from these substances make the nervous system more alert for external action and reduce appetite.
EPHEDRA AND EPHEDRINE
Ephedrine is a central stimulant extracted from species of the plant genus Ephedra. The substance is banned in most communities as a appetite suppressor nowadays, but are used for other medical purposes, for example to stimulate heart activity and increase blood pressure. In some communities Ephedra as a herb is still used as a part of stimulating herbal preparations.
Sibutramine works by reducing the reuptake of the hormones / neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinefrine and dopamine and thus increases the effects from these substances, with increased alertness and reduced appetite as a result.
This is a new drug working by blocking signals receptors that increase appetite upon signals from neurotransmitters / hormones. These are the same receptors that react upon contact with substances in the narcotic herb Cannabis. The main action of this drug is appetite reduction. In addition to appetite reduction it also seems to help smoking cessation for certain smokers. Severe depression may be a side effect of this drug.
B. MODERN HERBAL APPETITE REDUCERS
Because of the potential side effects of appetite suppressors from the amphetamine group, people often turn to herbal appetite reducers with a very long history of use in their country of origin without having shown the same side effects. The herbal appetite suppressors Hoodia Gordonii and pinnothin are two such herbal appetite suppressors of increasing popularity. Preparations containing these herbs generally also contain herbs that increase the burning of fat, or herbs that reduce the uptake of fat or sugar from the intestines.
This is a cactus-like plant native in the African dessert Kalahari. The San tribe living in this region has used the herb in centuries to suppress hungers during long hunting expeditions. In the long traditional use, the herb has shown to suppress hunger without side effects.
The plant contains substances whose molecules resemble glucose molecules. When there is enough glucose in the blood, the brain interprets it as a signal to reduce the hunger. The substances of the Hoodia Gordonii give the same signal to the brain, and thus reduce the appetite.
This chemical complex is found on the Korean Pine Nut tree Pinus Koreanensis, and the working substance of Pinnothin is pinnoleic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid with 18 carbon atoms, three double bounds and with the first bound on the fifth carbon atom (omega-5 poly-unsaturated fatty acid). Pinnoleic acid reduces the appetite by inducing production of a larger amount of the appetite regulating signal substance cholecystokinin (CCK), which then is released into the blood circulation. CCK in the blood is interpreted by the brain as a command to reduce the feeling of hunger.
Another ways CCK works, is by delaying the emptying of the stomach content into the intestines, and by giving signal to the gall bladder to empty its content with digestive enzymes into the small intestine. The stomach will therefore lack room for new food a longer time each day, and this reduces the urge to eat.
