Roanoke County Police said they will have to rely on Medical Examiner's results to investigate the death of a baby found in a woman's shopping bag at the Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke Sunday.

Roanoke County Police said they were called to the Tanglewood Mall around 3:20 p.m. for reports of a woman behaving erratically.

Mall security told police that she had assaulted one officer.

Police said they took 34-year-old Mandy Lavonne Lacy into custody where they discovered a baby's body in her shopping bag.

Monday, police said the baby's body was partially decomposed, making it difficult to determine the baby's age and sex. Detectives will have to wait for the Medical Examiner's results before moving forward.

Lacy is charged with assaulting a police officer. Police said they believe that she is a "transient" or not a resident of Roanoke.

More charges are pending an investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 540-562-3265.
