It also might be good to have different ships, for different purposes. It just occured to me, when talking about the falcon below, that really, not all of one kind of ship is used in wars.
There are big, slower ships with powerful, long-range weopons. There ares small fighters, very fast and manuverable, with close-range weapons. There are steath ships, which defy radar, but usually don't have any fancy guns..

The big ships are easier to run, the fighters are fast, and therefore difficult... This can be taken into account while training. I suspect the Alliance would have at least some cargo ships, which can be outfitted for guns like the bigger ships, and then a few fighters, which are small and easy to steal.

Raven has been around spacecraft her entire life, and although she does is not certified in that area and could not tell you the parts of the engine, she does know how to fix a ship when she needs to...
