Your stepson needs to understand who is in argue because of the responsibilities you have as their guardian.

Behavioral issues are because of a lack of respect between the parties. He probably feels that you have no dominion over him because you aren't his mom. And you are not. But you have authority because you are in his life because of his dad.

First you need to find out if the family situation is because of this. If so then you need to respect his feelings and disapline his attitude.
If he doesn't respect you because of your gender and sees gender roles as stereotypes when the female is not equal, a measure of "girl time" is a great exercise.
