For examples:
1) Some life forms have wood as an important component (plants)
2) Some have an outer shell, no spine (insects)
3) Some have wings but can't fly (chicken, etc)
4) Some have wings and do fly (birds)
5) Some have skins and a spine (mammals)
etc. etc.
..... Different designs. Why? Gradual evolution to best survive in different environments? "Nature" (="God"?) trying out different methods?
