..... As I understand it, some people are/were, and others are/were not, in communication with God. That's on an individual basis. Lots of money has been made in the past selling not only bibles, but lots and lots of other writings based on the various versions of bibles and other belief systems. Why would they want to kill the "golden goose" and replace bibles with modern personal communications with God?

Damoclese, you wrote: >>> ... Beliefs rest on assumptions. ... <<<
..... Yes, also on various speculations, teachings by many people, and ancient mythologies.

>>> ... The old pagan Gods were constructed to explain various aspects of nature. Some of them incorporated many aspects of nature into one monotheistic system. <<<
..... Yes, I agree.

>>> It's just the same old pagan God, but with a different feeling since others came along. ... <<<
..... There are very many religions, belief systems and their many versions all over this planet.

>>> ... So if I believe in God and Jesus, that's good enough for Biff? If I go out of my way to sin all the time, is that also still good enough for Biff to call me a Christian? ... <<<
..... See my post of today about the Value of Beliefs.

Biff wrote: >>> ... Christians have always believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Christians have always believed that he was crucified and resurrected. ... <<<
..... There are, and were, many versions of Christianity; some competing ones were surpressed by the winning factions, the Roman and Greek Orthodox Catholics. Obviously, as part of the FIRST version of Christianity, the one by Jesus, there was NO belief yet in the crucifixion of Jesus, nor in his resurrection.
..... Jesus was reported to have said that peacemakers are sons of God, and if it is true that God created everybody, then all males are sons, and all females are daughters of God.

>>> ... Are Jews not Christians? ... <<<
..... Christianity was started by Jews for Jews, but after the Romans had killed the Jew Jesus many changes were made to Christianity.

>>> ... Gnostic people believe God is actually the devil, not to mention some other differing beliefs about Jesus ... <<<
..... Gnostics were just one of the many versions. The book by Arthur Lillie "Buddhism in Christendom, or Jesus, the Essene" does mention this as far as I remember.
