Read the recently (2004) published book by [Professor, Anglican Priest, columnist, etc.] Tom Harpur: "The Pagan Christ. Recovering the Lost Light." Compare the teachings of Paul with ancient Egyptian mythology (Horus, Osiris and Isis) and see where Paul got (a part of?) his ideas from.
..... On page 5 it says: ... I knew nothing then of an Egyptian Christos, or Christ, named Horus. He and his mother, Isis, were the forerunners of the Christian Madonna and Child, and together they constituted a leading image in Egyptian religion for millennia prior to the Gospels ...
..... And on page 6 it says: ... the letters KRST appear on Egyptian mummy coffins ... when the vowels are filled in ... is really Karast or Krist, signifying Christ. ... etc.
..... It seems that Paul wanted to get as many new members as possible (or rather their money?) so he paganized the then existing early version of Christianity.
