As I see it, time is related to counting. You can count slowly or quickly, and time is just the ACCUMULATION of counts, with the time scale depending on the speed of counting, and with the "zero" of time being variable as required.
..... The beginning of time was when counting became possible (one-celled organisms didn't know how to count, but counting was possible then), and time will stop when counting will no longer be possible.
