Wade A. Tisthammer, you wrote in part: >>>...But this is the book as a whole, not select parts before compilation. ... <<<
..... Right. There's no way of knowing which writings, if any, no longer available, were consulted while writing the gospel "of John"; Q and Thomas were available to the Synoptics.
>>> ... Jews were famous for memorizing words of their teachers due to the oral culture of the time. They certainly had the ability to transmit the teachings of Jesus accurately within the lifetimes of the eyewitnesses. ... <<<
..... That may be so.
>>> Also, it's customary to record the teachings of respected teachers, hence the Q hypothesis which existed before any of the gospels were written. ... <<<
..... And the gospel of Thomas.
>>> ... That doesn't mean [Jesus] isn't God if (especially) he considered God his own Father, since that would make himself equal with God. <<<
..... According to Matthew 5:9 all peacemakers will be called sons of God. If all these too are God, then how many gods are there?
..... Besides, most of the many who SAY that they follow Jesus do NOT OBEY God. Many, for examples, kill, steal, don't look after their aged parents, cheat on their wifes, don't love one another, nor their neighbors, nor even their enemies. Obviously they do not think, in practice, that Jesus was, or even still is, God.
