In reply to: Mredd 's message, "Who can it be now? (If you have to ask, you're too young to remember)" on 12/18/01 9:43am

What threat could one itinerate preacher in a forsaken corner of Judea have been to the
Roman Empire? Precious little if any.

Hi Mredd,

Perhaps a little history....Israel was not in a corner... it is a land bridge to the far east.
Statically located as the land was fought over for many thousands of years. Trade, riches
and wealth could be transported faster “and safer” by boat back to Rome and ships never
went any where empty....Rome survived and became great because no province could be
so stupid as to not see the greatness of Rome...They were right, the best of the best for the
time. Get a map and look at it...you will see I am right. Also when you are looking at
history and the Jews...Do not confuse the original Jews --children from Abraham...from
the north eastern European Jews---whites--that were converted to the Jewish religion. It is
these Jews that are responsible for the Jewish state that is to days Israel--- not the children
of Israel..... Many people saw what man can achieve in the Roman culture.. the best of the
times back then---The chidden of Israel had a major problem with it...they were very
backward and Rome wanted to move forward so fighting was the given.

Think of the location like a road map around the Mediterranean you go right back to
Rome. You start with trinkets as you sail east and a little north from Rome-- stopping in
Israel for food, trade, and supplies as any of the hundreds of major ports --down to
Egypt then head west and south a little ...stop at North Africa and then turn North back to
Rome with a boat load of Gold (and good looking ladies)...This was just too good to pass
up....Israel was very valuable to complete the loop so to speak. Rome offered much to the
people ---protection and stability and leanings of all kinds and trade....Israel was stuck on
religion as Roman tried to teach other wise, “using other gods”...and so Rome fell.... not
because of out side influence but because the Romans gave up on what made them great
in the first place, from Civilized to Barbaric, and what was left?---religion....... The same
conquest was repeated as the years of “colonization” not that long ago...so came about the
USA and freedom of religion....Now let people fight over it at their will and with just
laws of behavior perhaps the playing field is level?.... it takes the wind out of the many
religious sails....or perhaps this country will again be as others that have risen only to be
defeated into religion...in the name of “common religious sense” and we will become as
Rome.

Less than a thumbnail of history.....but for sure Israel was not in a far corner. The people
became known for their violence, protesting... and social disruption...so they made the
front page news back in the time of Rome and so they do to day....Hardly a peaceful
religion and hardly a people of peace.....does war make sense?----don’t ask a man, ask
only the gods.
