Not to oversimplify the arguments here, but could you not also look at the word itself?

The word 'typical'.....and the word 'atypical'

Something that is "not" typical is "atypical". Applied to theist and atheist; do we not see a negative sort of connotation applied to the word atheist as suggested here by Ben and Damoclese?
