ozboy, you wrote, in part: >>> such laws were around long before the the christian era...so what right does christianity's version of the same rules have to ensure their insertion into the EU's constituion. <<<
..... Dictionaries contain lots of words. They can be strung together in any way, and those who decide on the wording of constitutions can use these words in any way they decide. Usually they want to control/please the majority of their population, and if that majority "believe" in a particular religion, then it is quite feasible that parts of that religion will find their way into the constitution.

>>>Religion has no respect for people who don't adhear to it's own doctrine, it looks down on them, it delineates and pigeon holes them.... <<<
..... There are very many religions/belief systems on this planet. Some of them are "better" than others. Take your pick!

>>>...religion requires one to believe whole-heartedly in
>something which cannot be seen, touched, spoken to,
>heard, smelt or produced at whim, something in which
>intelectual inconsistancies abound.... <<<
No, not religion; it's clergy who "require one" to (whatever). And there are many choices of groups of clergy

>>> Religion serves only to destroy equality by its hatred of others who are not the same. <<<
..... No, not religion. It's all those who (often quite wrongly?) interpret a religion to do that. For examples, Christianity REQUIRES believers to at all times obey all of the Ten Commandments and also the Golden Rule (Leviticus 19:18 and variations). But they don't ususally do that, causing a lot of troubles.

>>> ...so a constitution for such a religiously varied region like the EU should not include god.... it would be a recipe for disaster. <<<
..... Maybe so - tell that to those who are drafting the EU's constitution and to all those who will actually decide on its contents.
