Subject: What makes a Goth?

Yesterday I had a long discussion with a young man who was researching into what it took to be a goth. Did he have to listen to goth music? did he have to wear all black? did he have to believe in God? Naturally I told him what I thoughts, and the answer to all three of those questions was no, but that's my opinion, he would like to know what you think?

What makes you a goth? Why are you a goth? Can anyone become a goth? Is goth becoming a label for a fashion and losing its real identity?

...but I would love to know if there are requirements for it. I think they look very striking and fascinating and I admire them for having the courage to dress differently.
