I suppose that depends upon what they mean by a "flop". How would you define that? If all the dealerships wind up with lots of these in stock and nobody wants them, then I guess that would be a "flop". If they sell 10,000 in the first year- is that a flop? 20,000? 50,000?
As it stands now, people are going to have to leave a deposit and then wait for eight months to get one. I don't think Nissan would do that if they didn't think there is going to be a demand for the car.
Hertz just announced they're going ahead and outfitting their rental fleets with the Nissan Leaf. That should go a long way toward getting people to try the car. Gives people a chance to try it without any real commitment.
And it wouldn't be the first time Forbes was wrong if the Leaf is a runaway hit.
