In 2006 we talked about getting the town involved in the tourist business. It was agreed having the tourist business could bring in $0 - $8 million a year to the village and its' members. This is approximately $35,000 per member and over 200 jobs. We have been trying to get the council going on this proposal since 2006.

Now 7 years later and still no action. During these 7 years at $35,000 per year this would equal a total of $245,000 for each member not counting all the employment opportunities created by this enterprise.

The tourist business could still be viable if the members would vote for council members in favor of creating this enterprise.

I can't understand why the Metlakatla members can't research and develop new opportunities that I see as potential. Doesn't the community have a Grant Writer? Or can't the community invest in one? Rumors are rumors and best kept that way for "karma" reasons but, where on earth does the extra funding go? Why won't Metlakatla organize a fleet of fishing boats, or buy a few boats to fish outside of Metlakatla waters? The representees seem to be doing a piss-poor job in gaining a "true and economical" means to develop positive growth for it's members and excellent investment chances. Hire a community telemarketer and sell the Islands water. Hire an Investment Advisor. Get a Marketing Consultant and create funds for the community. It aint rocket science!
