Approximately in 2006 a proposal was sent to the council about using the fishing traps as a tourist attraction. The town could take in 6 to 10 million dollars a year (divided by 2,000 members comes to 35,000.00 per member a year).

Now we have two men running for Mayor in this coming election. They both turned the proposal down, that was in 2006. One was Mayor and one was a council member at the time. A lot of time has been lost- and Metlakatla cannot stand another two years of no progress.
