Computer and Network Support Specialist
GAINESVILLE STATE COLLEGE
Gainesville Campus
SUMMARY: Member of Information Technology team responsible for end user support, computer and software upgrades, and network maintenance at Gainesville State College. Responsible for working with various departments throughout the campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•
Provide technical support via phone, email, and in-person to faculty, staff, and students as needed pertaining to use of PC and Macintosh applications and hardware.
•
Support Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office software, MS Outlook, Web page/HTML creation, eLearning, and other software.
•
Administer OS X systems via Apple Remote Desktop, command-line, command-line scripting, AppleScript, Mac audio and video editing software and hardware, SAN-based central storage, security/authentication in an Active Directory network environment, virus protection, and backup/recovery hardware and software.
•
Perform installation, repair, and upgrades as necessary for PC and Mac hardware in offices and labs. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of computer equipment (i.e. system units, monitors and printers).
•
Install and troubleshoot network/telephone cable and possess the organizational skills necessary to maintain clean and professional wiring closets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration, as well as community liaisons.
•
Excellent customer service and time management skills are essential.
•
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and effective listening skills.
•
Must have an appreciation of diversity and be flexible in regards to scheduling.
•
Must work well in a team environment, but also be a self-starter.
•
Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful applicant may be called upon to lead project teams and assist in coordinating activities of Student Helpdesk workers.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
•
High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree or field-related training, certification and professional experience a plus.
•
Strong written and oral communication skills.
•
Strong PC and Mac hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting skills.
•
Strong network configuration and troubleshooting skills
•
Ability to work as part of a team, organize resources and establishing priorities.
•
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
•
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION: This is a twelve-month professional position which may require some evening and/or weekend hours; some travel also required. This is a benefit-eligible position.
ANTICIAPTED SALARY RANGE: Salary offered to successful candidate will be commensurate with relevant skills, education and experience.
