*** Alright, I OWN this system... and here is the scoop!
It has a DUAL fan setup that sucks in cool air thru 2 vents on the bottom, then vents the warmed air to the left side of the laptop thru 2 more vents, the fans are quiet and only click on after extended use (when the P4 becomes warm) I believe this is designed to extend battery life, which is good considering all of the devices this thing has got on it (averages 2.5 hours under moderate use). There are 3 USB ports that are USB 1.1 but it does have a firewire port so you have to deal with the USB issue, but if you aren't connecting a lot of devices then it's not an issue. The infared port is great (I use it with my PDA and it's transfer rate is great!) The DVD/CD-R combo drive is very quiet and the 15" screen is AWESOME! I mean it! My father has a Toshiba and he likes it... I am true HP fan and feel both systems are good... go with what you like best... they are pretty evenly matched in power and performance!

Good Luck!
