When the gem is red EVERYONE can see you (unless they are really dumb)
When the gem is in the yellow range, some creatures can see you, some can't. It also depends on their distance. Experiment to see which critters do what.
Black is almost total darkness. You want to be here.
NOTE: No matter how dark you are, enemies WILL notice you if they walk into you. Also, if you are being chased, don't think that you can just stop running with a guard hugging your butt and think that you can get away with it!
