Smoking is extremely addictive, once you start it will become very hard to get away from it, many only manage that with professional help. The problem here seems to be that for kids, some of the attraction seems to be that it's a forbidden thing and punishing those who are caught doesn't make them stop it.

So I think it is important to point out clearly that any smoker is a weakling giving in to an addiction ... they all smoke again and again because they are too weak and their addiction is too strong, even though they realize their mistake and want to get away from it but just can't ...

Of course it's also important that parents, teachers etc. don't give a bad example by smoking themselves.

Hey PJ,

I feel bad for your friend, too!!

At least he didn't have cigarettes to add to his paddling punishment and be suspended for ten days.

If he had been at my school, policy calls even having a lighter would be cause for reason for suspended from school. It would be considered a "weapon". I don't think a person could trade to be paddled, and I've never heard of anyone being in this situation before facing such a matter and for certain would be suspended.

Did Dr. L do the "honors" to your friend? I bet he didn't hold back if there were "really hard licks" and I wouldn't want to trade and be in your friends shoes.

Too bad the paddling couldn't have been given after school so your friend didn't have to face you and everyone else in PE Class. For sure his butt displayed the 6 hard licks? Worse, why did his dad wait to spank him Monday morning before school or didn't your friend say? Not to criticize his dad too much, he should have given his son the spanking Friday night the day he got "busted" or do you think his dad was trying to make an embarrassment for his son? If he was, I don't think that was right to do! Did your friend talk about his spanking his dad gave him? I was just wonder what he was spanked with? For sure, as serious as this was, I bet your friend got spanked bare?

Being grounded for two weeks and having to write a ten page essay about the "dangers of smoking" will certainly make your friend think twice to not want to smoke anymore! If he hadn't been caught he could have become adicted and in time gotten lung cancer!

It does sound like cigarettes really are expensive. Glad I never smoked and never want to anyway!!!
