Subject: College Sports Author: Brady [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 16:44:58 01/20/12 Fri In the world of exciting college athletics, we began our first week of intramural play at my college - I play Tuesday nights on a basketball team and Thursday nights on a Broomball team. Tuesday my basketball team picked up our first win 78-46, defeating Team #2 from the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity. I played Point Guard scoring 24 points including three 3-pointers. I also had three steals and 3 rebounds. Thursday night the frozen pond, my Broomball Team took to the ice at 10:30 and we notched our first win of the season too, defeating the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity 6-1. Since we play outside, temperature at game time was a crisp 20 degrees below. While I didn't score any points, I had several shots on goal, got knocked on my butt lots of times and had a lot of fun. Okay, this game is being played like hockey, right? Your on pond and has to be. Never heard of this game before so, you'll need to educate four Little Brothers how it's played and scoring, if different then hockey? You were playing -20 degrees outside! So, you got knocked on your butt several times, huh? With the -20 degree temp. it's a wonder you didn't freeze your butt off! Okay, it's been cold here, too. Had a high of 20 above yesterday and low last night of 5 above. You gotta keep listing your games each week so we can CHEER you and your team on. Gotta ask this, seeing how you belong to a Fraternity, when you pledged to them did you have to do crazy stuff to become a member? Like what? And did they take a Fraternity Paddle to ya? Instead of a conventional hockey stick, you find a broom, cut off the brissles the best you can and wrap the bottom half of the broom with duct tape. Instead of a puck you use either a soccor or volleyball. Instead of ice skates, you play in an old pair of sneakers that can give you traction on ice yet allow you to slide some. The game is played a lot like hockey. Each period begins with a face off at center ice, and you use the brooms to move the ball up and down the ice and put the in the other teams goal. Goal Tenders try to stop the ball from entering the net. When the other team has the ball you can try to take it away. You can chack them and shove them into the boards. You get one point each time the ball go in the other team's net. WE play it on local outdoor hockey rinks that are set up all over the place here this time of year. That is the basic of the game, or at least how we play play it. I find it fun. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

This sounds like a really COOL GAME to play. Do you think it would be safe for us to play, and not break any of our body parts to get our basketball coach mad at us, and so our dad's don't get mad as well IF that happened would want to paddle four butts for maybe breaking an ankle, arm, etc.? What really works best, soccer ball or volleyball? Got any ideas where we might get/find four broomsticks? Hate to "borrow" four from each of our Mom's and then return them and they find the broom ends cut-off. That wouldn't go over well, and the thing that Mom's would want to go overall would be our butts over each of our dad's laps for misconfiguration (you didn't know we knew a big word did you) of our Mom's brooms. Is it wise to wear a helmet? We could wear our skateboard helmets for protection. On an average, how many goal points do YOU score, Brady? Thanks for sharing about the Broomball Game!
