I have only seen Charles when he launched a canal boat that can be used by people who use wheelchairs. In state schools it was banned in 1986 and private ones in the late 1990s. Yes the cane was used, though it depended on the local area whether it was used on the bottom or hand. I don't think bare was allowed. Going further back in history then something called a birch was used - a bunch of twigs and that was on the bare. I am not sure why Corporal punishment was stopped, but I guess it was deemed to be old fashioned. At school you can get detention or worse excluded for a period of time like a week or worse than that expelled. I have only ever had one detention, I am not sure if I would swap it for being caned.
