Some mailing software will give you a tracking # even if the item to be shipped hasn't been mailed yet. Beware that "In transit" just means it is on the truck. (Sometimes still in the warehouse and not on the truck.) "Out for delivery" means it's in the local area and can still take two or three days for delivery. At least, that has been my experience.
