I have always wondered how much influence the daughters had in selecting the first few girdles.

Did most girls have to simply accept the girdles that their mothers (with or without the store clerk's "advice") picked for them, or did they typically have some choice, or at least were listened to when trying to tell Mom that they find one more comfortable than another with similar levels of control?

What opinion could the daughter express and have it matter??
