Robert, the year you had mentioned (1972) was exactly the year I saw this girl at the lab. I was 12 at that time and by far too shy to speak to her. I envied the girls that they could wear such things as pantyhose. Only some months later, at my 13th birthday, I got my own girdles and stockings. Not pantyhose, since my mother was a little old-fashioned and stayed with open-bottom-girdles and stockings some years more. Later she switched to pantyhose and pantiegirdles or pantie-corselettes.
And yes, I also think that not all girls wore a pantiegirdle with the hose, but most of the chubby ones and some of the other.
