In my opinion a well fitting girdle has a lot of benefits for women AND men.
Improving posture. You stand more erect and this ads to your self-confidence.
Support for a sagging belly. Some people have a weak connective tissue from birth, others may get it while becoming older. In both cases it is likely that parts of the body start to sag sooner or later. A good girdle holds the belly in.
Relief from back pain. People with a large sagging abdomen or spinal problems often get back pain. A girdle can alleviate it or even make it disappear.
Assistance in dieting. If you are on a diet it is recommended to wear a girdle and to replace it with a smaller one after you've lost some fat. But stay with the girdle that you not develop bad eating habits again.
All clothes fit better with a girdle underneath.
A way to fasten stockings and support or medical compression stockings. A lot of people find pantyhose during summer too hot. Wearing stockings with an open bottom girdle is better for air circulation and cooler.
Other advantages especially for women:
After birth a special postpartum girdle helps getting back the belly in normal shape again, even in case of 'diastasis recti' (abdominal seperation).
Seduction. Many men like girdles on their girlfriend or wife. If the sex life gets boring, perhaps an open bottom girdle with stockings may help.
Often women and CDs, TVs and TS feel more feminine while wearing a woman's girdle. For people of the transgender spectrum wearing a girdle (and a bra) reduces stress, they feel more at ease with themselves.
