Curious indeed! No purpose as such that I can think of for a boy that age. I also get the impression (correct me if Im wrong, please, folks!) that all other male bra wearers here have early memories of centered around girdles, and only came to bras after experience with girdles/corsets of their own as adults. This said, we are all very aware that wearing foundation garments has a mixture of reasons, some practical and others psychological. Did you ever ask your mother later on? Or talk to anyone else?

Meanwhile, here are 2 possible clues.

1. Do a Google Image search on Bryce + Brandon + Dawkin. This will bring up a Photobucket album of two little American boys in the 1960s. Some photos show them in 2-piece sunsuits with little ruched tops, tho' in others they are bare-chested (but girls of that age could be toop of course).

2. From Norway
The following was posted in English on the German site Forumromanum. From the date the thread must long ago have closed - at any rate I cannot trace it. The boys also will be grown-up young men by now.

Bodies for boys , 17.Nov.2004 14:38

First of all: I apologize for writing in English. I do read German quite well, but I presume nobody would understand my written German.

On the theme "Warme Strumpfhosen für Jungs", Ingrid 11 wrote in August about dressing her son (11) in a cotton body as underwear. I do the same with my sons (10 and 12). It‘s partly of economic reasons, as they may use the same clothes as their sisters (one older, one younger). But a body is also a very practical, and very nice piece of underwear also for a boy.

I‘ve always dressed my sons, not in girls‘ wear, but in a unisex way. I prefer to have them dressed in unisex briefs/panties, f x in white cotton/lycra, high on the waist and with no seams or double front. Or I buy them girls‘ boy-cut boxers, with a very short vest (may be called training bras, but they‘re not really bras, just tightfitting vests, and very short to leave the belly bare). And of course footed tights, thin semi-opaque for parties and woollen knitted ones for school.

We‘ve just prepared their new outfit for Christ[BAD]. The older boy will wear black velvet plusfours (Bundhosen), the younger one black velvet tightfitting shorts/hotpants, both with white thin cotton/lycra tights (Strumpfhosen) under, and a white shirt/blouse. I do enjoy boys in such an androgyne appearance, they‘re so sweet, much more than dressing them in real girls‘ clothes as dresses etc.

As for bodies: Yes, I‘ve had some problems with my older son, to have him accept it. But his cousin Marcus is of the same age, and he wears a body under his shorts when joining his athlete‘s club‘s training. After my son had discovered that, he accepted to wear a body as underwear without any more objections. But I do allow him to wear briefs/panties or boxers on Physical education days at school, to prevent too much teasing.

Is this a common way to dress boys in Norway? Definetely not, but it is accepted, and no-one raises their eyebrows on my sons‘ clothes. And as for tights, it‘s been a remarkeable change the last few years. National costumes have been increasingly popular, also for boys and teens, and breeches are an important part of such a costume. And everyone with sons knows that kneelong socks under breeeches is not the best solution: The socks will always tend to slid down to the ancles on smooth boys‘ legs. So it has now been quite common that boys even up to an age of 15 or 16 wear woollen (or cotton) ribbed tights under their breeches - and in that age they would definetely not accept to wear tights on any other occasion. It‘s cute!
