We had hail damage the other night to our roof from a couple bad storms that passed. I went up on the roof to repair some shingles that got beat up. As I was coming back down the roof to get on the ladder, I slipped and an old rusty nail in the gutter went deep in my leg. I still landed on my feet, but that nail was stuck in the back of my leg. So I went in the house to dig it out.

Amazingly it didn't bleed much at all. I called Jennifer, my girlfriend who works as a nurse at the doctor's office. She'd been riding my ass for three years about getting a tetanus booster.....hadn't had one in 20 years. I knew I was going to get an ear full when I told her what happened. She didn't mention the shot but told me to wash the puncture wound with soap and water and put Neosporin on it. She told me she'd see me in a couple hours to look at it.

Around 5:15 after she got off work, she came home and got me by the hand and led me to the bedroom. She had me lay face down and looked at the puncture wound on the back of my thigh. She put Betadine on it and some more Neosporin, then a fresh bandaid.

Next thing I knew my drawers and boxers were getting yanked down and my bare ass was exposed to the cool AC in the room. I asked her what she was doing and looked back to see a loaded syringe and an alcohol swab on the night stand. She said "Now you've got to get a tetanus shot whether you want it or not!" I started to fuss about it and she pretty much served me a steaming hot cut of STFU...."you want lockjaw, you F'n idiot!!??". I anxiously looked at the needle on that syringe. It way more than just an inch long, about as thick as an 0.9 pencil lead. She swabbed my upper right butt cheek with alcohol....and in quick succession I felt her squeeze up a chunk of ass cheek between her fingers....then a tight pinch and a sting. And boy did it sting! I yelped out "OW!! OW!! OW!! It felt like a hornet landed and hit me hard, but the worst of it only lasted a few quick seconds and it was over. Then she put a little round bandaid where she jabbed me and gave me a love slap on my naked butt.... "all done baby!"

I asked Jennifer why she had to give it to me in the ass instead of the arm like they usually do. She told me it hurts less in the butt, but works just as good as long as the needle reaches the muscle. Which is why she used such a long needle. I kind of wish she'd given it to me in the arm because it hurt to sit for the next two days. I don't remember tetanus shots ever hurting much at all in the arm. My butt has a lot more feeling than my arm IMO.
