Pretty hard to predict what a nurse will and will not do. I had the same nurse all the time growing up, and she was usually very nice but other times very matter of fact. They are people, just like any of us and have bad days and good days.

If you are that frightened, perhaps you should have a trusted relative or friend go with you. You can't really rely on a nurse for emotional support, they are just doing a job. One advantage, as I mentioned before, is that when getting a shot in the bottom you are facing the other direction and don't see the needle. You could probably just distract yourself with thinking of other things besides what is taking place, and it will be easier to take.

I got many shots in the bottom growing up, and although some did sting, they were not excruciating, and even the ones that left a little soreness were better than any of the shots I have received in the arm. Even the Hepatitis series I got in the arm left my arm slightly sore.
