B12 is one of the B vitamins. It is crucial for nerve function. Unfortunately our diets don't provide a good supply, and as we get older, it is poorly absorbed through the digestive tract(gut). It is often prescribed for people who have had some kind of nerve or brain injury...stroke, TIA or accident. Mine was prescribed when I suffered nerve damage to my right eye a few years ago. The only dependable way to get enough B12 for some of us is by injection. It bypasses the gut and goes directly into the bloodstream where it is needed. If your doctor thinks you need it, he/she will prescribe it. If I took a B12 pill every day with the same dosage as my monthly shot, I would only get about one tenth total of what I get with one shot, so I take the shot. Hope this answers your questions.

I had a female student that came in for a B12 injection. it was her first. She watched as I drew it up in the 3cc syringe with 20g needle. I told her to go over and lower her jeans and lay face down on the table. her eyes got real big and she said that is going in my rear? I told her yes. I pulled down her jeans to the bottom of her butt cheeks. I pulled down her black panties. She tensed as soon as I touched her bottom with the alcohol wipe. I said on the count of three. I placed my hand on her firm butt and as i said one a sank the needle in her bottom. She jumped and said you said on three. I pulled out the needle and massaged her butt and placed a bandaid on the site. She pulled up her panties and got up fastened her jeans. She said that was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Steve I saw your message here from 2011 and hope you can advise.I just got 1,000mcg injectable b-12 from my neurologist. He knew I had given myself subQ injections before so I told him I had plenty of needles left. No instructions as to how much, just a calendar schedule every day for a week, then 3x a week, then maintenance for the year. my syringes are 1.cc divided into tenths along the length, size 1/2 " 12.mm. I have no idea what the dose should be, although I've been reading on several sites, it isn't clear, as some folks go for the big one dose shot and thats not what is happening here. THEN if that weren't enough, several sites say subQ but intramuscle is better. do you have time to email me your experience?aksafetycerts@alaska.net thanks
